How CampusHands keeps people safe
Safety is built into the product, not sold as an add-on. Here’s exactly how it works.
In an emergency, call 911.
CampusHands routes to emergency services — it never replaces them. Our SOS alerts your circle and surfaces 911; it does not contact responders for you.
Every student is vetted
.edu verified
A one-time code to a real school email confirms they’re a student.
ID verified
Government-ID identity verification before a profile can go live.
Background-checked
A clear background check is required for any in-home or pet-care work.
A profile stays hidden until verification is complete, and 18+ is required for any solo or in-home job. Background checks reduce risk but don’t eliminate it — always use good judgment.
The Safety Circle
Every student can invite people they trust to watch out for them. While on a job, their circle can see live location and check-ins. If a student goes overdue, the whole circle is alerted automatically. One tap raises an SOS.
How your location is protected
These are promises we keep in code.
On-shift only
Your location is shared only while you're on an active job with sharing on. The moment you check out or pause, sharing stops.
No off-shift tracking
There is no way for CampusHands — or anyone — to see your location when you're not on a sharing shift. We don't collect it.
24-hour purge
Raw location points are deleted 24 hours after a job ends. Only a sealed, tamper-evident event summary remains — no coordinate history.
Never sold
We never sell or rent your location, and never share it with anyone outside the circle you chose.
You're in control
You own your circle: only you add or remove members. No client, parent, or admin can add themselves or turn your sharing on.
Always free
Your Safety Circle, check-ins, overdue alerts, and SOS are free forever — they are never behind a paid tier.
A tamper-evident safety log
Every shift keeps a sealed, hash-chained and digitally-signed log of safety events — start, sharing changes, check-ins, overdue, SOS, and check-out. Both the student and their circle can see it, and any tampering breaks verification. It’s built on the same audit spine used across our products.
